Preventive and restorative dental services count toward end of year insurance benefits. Visit your Charlotte dentist before 2015 ends.
It’s time to use the end of year benefits from your dental insurance. Most insurances--whether through your employer or purchased independently-- cap plan benefits when the calendar year ends. Have you made your appointment with Charlotte dentist and
Invisalign provider, Arthur R. Schramm DDS?
Who needs dental insurance?
Both individuals and families benefit from dental insurance. The cost of living is definitely on the rise, and people economize in many ways, including cutting corners on health and
dental services. Dental insurance definitely assists patients in getting the care they need.
Dr. Schramm and his professional staff urge people to resist the temptation to postpone routine check-ups and cleanings and avoid important restorative work. You only get one set of teeth, and preventive dentistry, combined with routine oral hygiene at home, keeps smiles as bright and healthy as possible. Plus, oral health interplays with systemic health. The effects of decay and gum disease spread throughout the body if not treated.
What’s covered?
So, if you have dental insurance, or have put funds into an FSA (Flexible Spending Account), take advantage of the many dental services covered under your policy. While your coverage may pay only a percentage of dental charges, or stipulate that you use only “in-network” providers, the reimbursement is worth pursuing.
For example, your insurance benefit for a one-surface filling may be $40 while the actual charge for the restoration is $78. This represents a good savings ($38) over paying completely out of pocket, and you should take full advantage of it. Typically, policies pay a portion of covered services such as:
- fillings
- x-rays
- hygienic cleanings
- periodontal therapy
- crowns
- dental implants
- full and partial dentures
- fixed bridgework
- plastic dental sealants
- fluoride treatments
Additionally, dental insurance usually features an annual maximum benefit--$2,000, for example--for each individual on the policy. If unused, that maximum benefit expires at year’s end and does not roll over into the next calendar year. Dr. Schramm urges you not allow those dollars to go to waste. Rather, use them fully to benefit your oral health. It’s why people have dental insurance in the first place.
