Remember going back to middle school or high school after a long summer vacation? If you were like most teenagers, then you were probably nervous and concerned about your appearance. “Mom, how do I look?” “Mom, do you like this shirt?” “Is my hair okay?” And if you went back to school with a mouthful of metal braces, then you had the added pressure of being self-conscious when you smiled, talked and ate. Wouldn’t you like to spare your own child that discomfort? With
Invisalign, Dr. Arthur Schramm, the dentist in Charlotte, NC, can straighten your child’s teeth minus the metal brackets and wires, as well as the added stress of self-consciousness.
Most people think Invisalign clear braces are only for adults. The truth, however, is that teens can wear them, too. In fact, there is now
Invisalign Teen®. Instead of traditional metal brackets and wires, Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to gradually move teeth into their proper alignment. These aligners are removable, so your teenager can enjoy all of their normal activities without worrying about orthodontic braces getting in the way. The aligners are removed when it’s time to eat, so popcorn at the movies is not a problem—a no-no with traditional braces. If your child plays an instrument such as the trumpet, Invisalign aligners can be temporarily taken out while they play and practice. And maintaining good oral hygiene with regular brushing and flossing is a breeze with Invisalign.
The Invisalign Process for Your Child
When you bring your teen for a consultation about Invisalign with Dr. Schramm, he will first want to conduct a thorough examination of their teeth and gums to make sure their oral health is in top condition before beginning orthodontic treatment. Then, we’ll take digital x-rays, impressions and photographs of their teeth that will be sent to the Invisalign lab. There, a 3D representation of your child’s mouth and teeth will be created, so Dr. Schramm can develop a treatment plan that will chart the exact movements of your son or daughter’s teeth. You and your child will even be able to see how the teeth will move before treatment begins. And the lab uses this same plan to manufacture your teen’s aligners.
The Invisalign aligners arrive at Schramm Dentistry in a series of sets. Your child will wear each set for about two weeks, and then move on to the next set. As time passes, you’ll both notice how their teeth are moving and their smile is becoming straighter. At the end of treatment, which usually takes no longer than that of standard braces, you child will have a beautiful new smile and all the confidence in the world.
