When you see your smile in the mirror or in a picture, are your eyes drawn to one flaw? If you could just fix that one little…. Well, actually you can and the fix is relatively simple, too. With cosmetic bonding, Dr. Arthur R. Schramm, III at Schramm Dentistry in Charlotte, NC, has restored the smiles of many patients.
Cosmetic bonding can be used to repair teeth that are:
- Chipped
- Slightly cracked
- Somewhat misaligned
- Discolored or stained (and unresponsive to teeth whitening)
- Irregularly spaced with gaps
- Unusually worn down
More often than not, these flaws can be repaired by cosmetic bonding in just one appointment. And the same material Dr. Schramm uses to repair these minor damages can also be used to fill cavities, so smiles are seamless and metal-free.
The Cosmetic Bonding Procedure
When you come to Schramm Dentistry for cosmetic bonding, the first thing we’ll do is make sure you’re comfortable. Then, we’ll position a shield over your lips and gums to protect them during the procedure. Dr. Schramm will carefully apply a gentle phosphoric acid solution to the surface of the natural tooth to make it more receptive to the bonding material.
Then that material, which is made of different shades of composite resin chosen to match your natural tooth color, is applied to the surface of the tooth. Dr. Schramm carefully shapes and molds the resin until a pleasing and natural appearance is achieved. The bonding material is then hardened with a curing light, after which Dr. Schramm trims and polishes the material to a perfect finish. With a little gentle care—avoid biting hard objects with teeth that have cosmetic bonding—your new smile will last for years.
